Introduction to Hershey's Chocolate World

Hershey's Chocolate World is a visitor center consisting of shops, restaurants, and themed attractions related to the Hershey's chocolate brand. The first ever Hershey's Chocolate World (HCW) was built in the Hershey community, located in Pennsylvania, United States.

The new facility replaced a similar one called Hershey Chocolate Plant Tour, which had capacity issues. It officially opened for business on June 30, 1973, and brought in over a million visitors in less than a year.

Today, there are Hershey's Chocolate Worlds in other countries, including Canada and Singapore. These centers simply strengthen the global presence of The Hershey Company, one of the biggest confectionery companies in the world.

HCW serves as a must-visit destination for chocolate enthusiasts. It also celebrates over a century of Hershey’s chocolate products. You and the entire family can eat, play, enjoy rides, and shop at this interactive visitor center.

How Long Does It Take to Go Through Hershey Chocolate World?

It will take you 4 hours to go through all of the main attractions at Hershey's Chocolate World. However, many visitors claim that 2 hours was enough time to enjoy the free tour, participate in the candy-making experience, and browse the shops.

In terms of educational rides, most visitors are satisfied with the Hershey’s Chocolate Tour, a 30-minute free ride around the chocolate factory. The other rides require tickets but can be just as exhilarating.

Another important part of any visit to the center is the Create Your Own Candy Bar experience. For 45 minutes, you get to create and taste a personalized chocolate bar using various ingredients.

For those who want to stay longer, a 45- to 75-minute educational trolley tour and a 30-minute theatrical show in high contrast mode and advanced color scheme might interest you.

There is no limit to how long you can spend at the shops and restaurants, so some people spend the whole day at Hershey's Chocolate World.

How Many Hershey's Chocolate Worlds Are There?

A Peek Into Hershey's Chocolate Ingredients

The main ingredients in Hershey’s chocolate are cocoa, milk, palm oil, sugar, and eggs. The company combines these ingredients with others to create creamy and sweet chocolate candies, giving Hershey’s its distinctive taste.

Contrary to common misconceptions, The Hershey Company is open about the source of these ingredients as well as its measures to ensure safe, responsible, and sustainable sourcing.

Hershey's in Korea: A Sweet Revolution

Hershey’s may be an American brand, but it has region-exclusive flavors in several foreign countries, including Korea. Hershey Waffles: Mandarin Orange is one of the most popular flavors in the country. It’s made with the zesty, citrusy taste of mandarin orange.

Hershey Cookie: Chocolate Chip is another product created with Koreans in mind. This crunchy version of the treat is often enjoyed with milk.

Hershey's in Japan: Unique Flavors and Innovations

Japan has a fair amount of exclusive Hershey’s flavors. One of them is the Matcha Daifuku Mochi, which was created exclusively for the Japanese market.

The brand has also released limited-edition offerings, like Hershey’s Matcha Chocolate Ice Cream, which featured green tea and kuromitsu, a brown sugar syrup used in Japanese cooking.

Is Hershey's Owned by Nestlé? A Chocolate Industry Insight

Hershey's is not owned by Nestlé. It’s currently one of the many brands owned by The Hershey Company, which is a publicly traded company founded by Milton Hershey in 1894.

Many people think Nestlé owns Hershey’s because both The Hershey Company and Nestlé produce their own Kit Kat and Rolo candy bars. THC makes and markets them in the United States, while Nestlé does the same everywhere else.

This situation arose because THC acquired the license to manufacture Kit Kat and Rolo in the U.S. in 1969. When Rowtree’s, the original owners of the products, sold their business to Nestlé in 1988, THC retained its U.S. manufacturing license.

Why Are Hershey Bars So Expensive?

Hershey bars are expensive mainly due to the rising cost of key ingredients such as cocoa and sugar. The increase in prices of those ingredients was caused by climate issues and rising inflation. While these issues affect all chocolate manufacturers, Hershey bars are generally pricier because of their high production quality and reputable brand name.

Popular Korean Snacks Featuring Hershey’s

Hershey’s products have become integrated into Korea’s snack culture. Popular Korean treats featuring Hershey’s include the following:

  1. Cookies dipped in Hershey’s chocolate bar

  2. Hershey cookie dipped in fresh milk

  3. Crunchy sandwich biscuit filled with Hershey chocolate

Hershey Chocolate Chip Cookies and Beyond

For a unique twist, pair Hershey's products with other Asian flavors, such as the following recipe ideas:

  1. Semi-sweet green tea and chocolate-chip cookies

  2. Chocolate-filled mochi

  3. Chocolate-coated freeze-dried strawberries
