Spicy Korean Chicken Recipe
What are Korean Fried Chicken Wings?
Korean chicken wings are currently all the rage and for good reason! Its crispy skin coated in the sweet and spicy umami-packed sauce will definitely be a crowd-pleaser for your next gathering! Pair these wings with a bowl of hot rice or as an appetizer for a delicious meal.
There are many Korean-style chicken recipes, however, this chicken wing recipe is probably the easiest and finger-licking worthy of them all. All you have to do is bake your chicken wings, coat them in the marinade, and bake them until fully cooked. If you have an air fryer, you can definitely air fry the chicken wings for an even crispier finish.
Either way, air fried or baked in the oven, there is nothing that can go wrong with it. I love that you can just plop them in the oven and forget about it until your timer goes off. Sounds pretty foolproof, right?
Spicy Korean Chicken Wings
What makes these wings so special? The most important part of this recipe is the umami-packed sauce. The main ingredient in the sauce is gochujang. Gochujang or red chili paste is a savory, sweet, and spicy fermented condiment popular in Korean cooking.
Gochujang adds a distinctive sweet and spicy flavor that is unique to many Korean dishes. Some popular Korean foods that also use gochujang are tteokbokki (Korean spicy rice cakes), bulgogi, and bibimbap (Korean rice bowls). Depending on the type and brand of gochujang, the spice level can be different so feel free to adjust to your liking.
This is a simple sauce combining a few key ingredients, but so flavorful and delicious. This sauce is very versatile and would pair well with not only chicken wings but with any type of protein (beef, pork, shrimp, salmon). It would even be great over rice or noodles. I love this sauce so much that I could eat bowls of rice with just the sauce!
